City match for chess teams
Mandag 5. januar kl 18:00 - 20:00
Which city around the big lake of Mjøsa is the best in chess? Monday January 5th at 18:00 - 20:00 we will find out, as Gjøvik, Hamar and Lillehammer meet to a prestigious city match in chess at Thon Hotel.
The match is planned to be played with 12 players from three teams meeting each other over a total of 18 boards. Time limits will be 1 hour per player for the complete game. Matches between the Mjøsa cities is an old tradition in chess. The first was played all the way back in 1926 and resulted in a surprising victory to Gjøvik, though at that time they had strong players like associate professor Tangevall, associate professor Svendsen and engineer Trygve Valeur from Toten cellulose factory. Hamar has overall been the strongest chess city around Mjøsa, with the Norwegian Champion of 1960, Daan de Lange, at the helm for several decades.
